Why is it difficult to Trust God? by Alicia Briscoe

Fruitful Thought: Have you considered why it is difficult to Trust God? I believe this is due to our relationship with people. We tend to compare how our spiritual relationship with God is going to be or not based on our natural relationships. If you are like me you may struggle with trust. The dictionary describes "Trust" as a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. You may have been taught to trust people like me. If so, that trust may have been broken in some form or fashion in life. It may have occurred in your childhood with an adult taking advantage of you sexually and you don't know what to do or who you can trust to tell. It may be that parent that didn't show up at your games to support or cheer you on. It may be that bestfriend that you shared a secret with and they shared it with others. Whatever the case may be your trust was broken. The more your trust is broken the harder it is for you to trust. I had to learn that for me to trust God I had to know him. We tend to take for granted that trusting God is for him to do everything we ask or want in our lives. We don't put that demand on our natural relationships. Before we trust people we spend time with them and get to know them. We build a rapport and exchanges take place. The same actions are necessary to trusting God. We must spend time in his presence and studying his word to get to know him. As we do this we will begin exchanging with him getting to know us and we getting to know him. The more time we spend with God the more we will learn to trust him. As we learn to trust God he will give us the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding we need to trust people. The bible talks a lot about trusting God. I love how Proverbs 3:6 the Message version makes it plain "Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil! Your body will glow with health, your very bones will vibrate with life! Honor God with everything you own; give him the first and the best. Your barns will burst, your wine vats will brim over. But don’t, dear friend, resent God’s discipline; don’t sulk under his loving correction. It’s the child he loves that God corrects; a father’s delight is behind all this". I encourage you to trust God and live a life of victory! Remember people will disappoint you but God promises to be with you always and never forsake you. To trust God means believing in His reliability, His Word, His ability, and His strength.
