“Conformer or Transformer” by Alicia Briscoe
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. - Romans12:2 NKJV
Are you a Conformer or Transformer?
If we are honest, the more someone tells us not to do
something the more curious we are to do it. Eventual the things we do become a conformity lifestyle. To conform to something means to
adhere to what is commonly accepted. The pattern of this world belongs to
Satan, but the world belongs to God and the fullness thereof (see Psalm 24;1).
Therefore, we need to know who we are and whose we are. If you belong to God, then
you are not common and should not be living commonly. Living commonly is doing
what you want to do when you want to do with no regards to who you are or to
whom you belong. It is living recklessly and making justification of it by
saying “everybody is doing it. I know you have heard your mother say
this – “If everybody jumps off the bridge, are you going to do it too?” The reality is that we seriously consider
doing it.
“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind” means to make a
dramatic change in form, appearance, and character. If your mind changes, you will
change. We change our minds all the time. But are we changing it for the better
or worse? If you are changing it for the better, you must feed your mind just
like you feed your stomach daily. Feed your mind with things that will grow
you, like the word of God and adhere to what it says. This is how you start
your spiritual growth, and transformation.
Like
Jesus’ we are flesh and spirit. Therefore, we have a responsibility to tend to
both our physical and spiritual being. Every time you think about feeding your
physical being extend that thought to your spiritual being and feed
your mind the Word of God, your spirit will begin to develop knowing the truth
with evidence of a favorable character that is suitable, pleasing, and
welcoming to those you encounter. Reference (1 Corinthians 2:11).
The perfect Will of God is having all the required, desirable
elements, qualities, characteristics, as good as it can possible be. In other
words, “Everything we need for a godly life” (2 Peter 1:3) Sometimes parts of
God’s Will are not pleasing to us even though we know that its good. But the
more we grow and mature we will begin to love all the ways of God and discover
how pleasing they are.
How about you? Have you decided? I have decided to be a Transformer!
I am intentional about growing up spiritually. I not only spend time with God,
but I adhere to his instructions, and guidance. I am not saying that I have it
all together and doing everything right. But I examine myself daily and present
myself to God to examine me as well. When I fall short and miss the mark, I go
back to God to get it right. I encourage you to be a Transformer!
