Let Your Light Shine! By Milo Briscoe

You are the light of the world, like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:14-16 NLT

Our responsibility as followers of Christ, is to touch the lives of everyone around us. Wherever we are, we have an opportunity to influence that environment. The first verse says, “You are the light of the world, like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden,” that tells me we should stand out. Our character, which should be the image of God’s character, should give light to everyone around us.

The passage states, “a lamp is placed on stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.” You notice it does not say on the floor or in a closet, but in area where it can be effective and will impact everyone around it. God places us in areas where our light, His character, can shine for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

When we allow fear, a bad attitude, or any other character that is not God’s to influence us, we put a basket over our light. When that happens, people miss the light that God wants to show through us. So, let us not cover our light or even worse, let our light dim or go out. Let us purpose to stay connected to our source, The Father, and through us, His light will shine impacting the world.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for choosing us to be Your light that impacts the world. Help us to stay plugged into You as we walk this walk, so our light will not go dim or go out. In Jesus name, Amen.
